Check Ups

Getting a new puppy, kitten or young rabbit is extremely exciting, especially if it’s your first pet. It’s important that you have done lots of research about your chosen breed, and that you give the new addition to your family the best possible start in life.

We recommend that you bring your new pet to see one of our vets once a month until they’re six months old. This is so that their growth and development can be monitored to ensure they grow into a happy and healthy animal.

Once your pet is six months old you will only need to bring them for a general check-up once a year. If you have any concerns about their health in between visits, bring in your pet to see one of our vets as soon as possible.

Pets age much more rapidly than humans and they can’t tell us when they are feeling unwell. This makes regular check-ups for our pets the most important step in preventative health care. A regular veterinary examination ensures health problems are detected and treated early and more effectively. Check-ups include:

  • Ears, eyes and mouth, including the teeth.
  • Chest check-up to detect any irregularities in the lungs or heart.
  • Limbs check-up, including lymph nodes and the joints, for any indication of arthritis.
  • Skin check-up, looking for external parasites and also to examine the level of hydration.
